Getting started

Human Connections with Silver Linings has a way to help our youth  bond with another generation. Our journals provide the conversation starters, you just need to arrange the meeting times! Commit to ten visits between your child and a grandparent/senior. Use any of the playbook journals to get started.

PLAYBOOK JOURNALS

Silver Linings Playbook, Elementary Edition has the most basic questions  and has space to write responses to questions and a summary after each visit.

Middle School Edition offers additional questions to those  in the elementary edition. A more detailed summary is asked for at the completion of each visit.

Silver Lining Playbook, High School and Beyond is for the more independent user. In addition to the features of the other journals,  additional research and writing cues are suggested to enhance writing.

All three journals encourage the creation of a biography at the completion of the visits.

Are you a teacher or youth leader? Use this guide to start your very own Club!

Members will compare responses from senior visits and discuss relevant issues from the book, 'Children, Hit the Gully'. A wonderful way for young people to compare different cultures and outcomes from a lifetime of choices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

At Human Connections with Silver Linings, we consider a silver lining to be a senior. This senior person is filled with wisdom and encouragement. Just what our youth need! Someone who has the time to listen, enjoys, and appreciates young people.

Doing this independently, (not as a club member) means you can start whenever you can schedule a regular meeting time with a senior. We suggest at least once a week to keep focused, but whatever time you can arrange will be beneficial.

Grandparents would be an obvious first choice, but there are other options as well. If your family does not have grandparents on either side of the family, we suggest that you reach out to someone that is a part of your community. A respected member of your congregation, a member of the VFW, volunteer organizations, or any respected leader that you may want to find out more about.

Covid has taught us that we don't have to be in person! Use a video service, telephone, text, skype, or any other means for visits, if in person visits cannot be arranged.
